Vintage mid-century Scandinavian design Gunnar Nylund for Rörstrand Hedgehog vase, made in Sweden circa 1940.

Rörstrand three crowns, SVERIGE (Sweden) CHAMOTTE NYLUND markings on the base. Model V208. The Chamotte vases come in 3 sizes, this is the medium size. Rare collector's item, iconic Swedish design.

Intricate deeply textured stoneware chamotte surface with a stunning enamel pearl glaze that reflects an iridescent pearly white green colour. I have tried to portray the colour as best I can through the photographs. Nice substantial weight.

Condition:
In excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks or repairs.

Measurements:
16cm tall x 13cm diameter at widest point = approx 6.3" x 5.25"
Opening is round, 3.5cm diameter at top edge, plus a 5mm lip.

Gunnar Nylund (1904-1997) was a Swedish ceramic designer and is one of the most well-known representatives of Scandinavian ceramic design in the 20th century. He is best known for his artistic direction of Rörstrand where he worked from 1931-1955. Nylund’s works are highly collectible and greatly sought after. Many are represented at the Swedish National Museum of Art and Design.
