Vintage mid century modern Scandinavian design Hjördis Oldfors for Upsala-Ekeby ceramic bowl, made in Sweden between 1954-58.

Upsala-Ekeby Sweden and Hjördis Oldfors markings on the base. Model 5027 from the Kokos (coconut) line. Amazing collector's item! Delicate matte brown earthenware with mustard yellow vitreous glazed incised lines, also glazed on the base and interior. Carved edge around a unique curved form resembling an open coconut.

Condition:
In good vintage condition. Some scuffing around the outside (see pictures). No chips or cracks.

Measurements:
9cm tall x 14cm wide x 13cm deep = approx 3.75" x 5.5" x 5.25"

Hjördis Oldfors (1920-2014) was a renowned Swedish ceramist, she was regarded as an important ceramic artist in Sweden during the 20th century. Hjördis worked for Upsala-Ekeby from 1952 to 1959. Many of her works are now featured in museums. In the mid-50s she created the Kokos (coconut) Line. It consists of ten earthenware vases and bowls with rounded forms. The Coconut series is now highly sought after among pottery collectors.

Upsala-Ekeby AB was a porcelain, tile, brick, and glass company founded in 1886 in Uppsala, Sweden. The factory ceased operations in 1980.
