Mid-century vintage Martin Freyer for Rosenthal bisque porcelain plissee vase, made in Selb, Germany between 1968-74.

Designed by German artist Hans Martin Freyer for Rosenthal. Green Rosenthal Germany and Martin Freyer signature marking on base, as well as studio-linie. Matte white surface with pleated ('plissee') ribbed relief texture. The base and interior have a glossy glazed finish. This form is often referred to as the 'Onion'. Beautiful Op Art collector's item!

Condition:
In good vintage condition. There is a hairline crack along one side, it is approximately 5cm long but only visible when looking very carefully. There are also some yellowish stains on the surface. These details don't detract from the overall appearance, they are only noticeable when closely observed. Please see pictures for details.

Measurements:
11cm tall x approx 11cm diameter (at widest point) = approx 4.5" x 4.5"
Irregular elliptical opening: approx 3cm x 2.5cm

A second 'Onion' vase is also available, in excellent condition, as shown in last image. This piece is offered at a lower price due to the condition as described above.

Hans Martin Freyer (1909-1975) was a German painter and designer, born in Hanover, Germany. Throughout his career Freyer worked as a portrait artist, as well as a graphic and industrial designer for surface decorations and structures. From 1964 to 1974, he designed for Rosenthal Porcelain, developing relief decorations for glass and porcelain vases of the studio-line. His most well-known design is the Pleated Vase designed in 1968.
