Vintage cube vase designed by Giovanni Bertoncello for Bertoncello Ceramiche D'Arte, made in Italy circa 1970s.
Sculptural rounded cube form with two organic, decorative piercings that double as integrated handles. Very interesting piece to display as each view of the vase is different. The top has an off centre circular opening. The base has two long low feet. Glazed in the recognisable 'Screziato Havana' style, the colour is beige with reddy/brown speckled accents. The glaze continues on the inside as well.
Condition:
In excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks or damage.

12.5cm tall x 12cm wide x 12cm deep = approx 5" x 4.75" x 4.75"
Circular top opening: 5cm diameter.

Bertoncello Ceramiche D'Arte was established in the town of Schiavon in the province of Vicenza, Veneto, Italy in 1956. Founded by Giovanni Bertoncello and Messrs. Lini and Pizzato, the firm was renamed soon after when Mr. Lini was replaced by Giovanni's brother, Felice Bertoncello. Giovanni Bertoncello was the creative force behind the company's early designs. By the early 1970s, his artistic skill and entrepreneurial spirit led to great successes, both in Italy and on the foreign market. The company is most famous for modern, sculptural, organic shapes that often feature rounded, recessed holes and integrated handles. All pieces are molded from white clay and many are finished with a signature mottled, brown-and-beige glaze known as 'Screziato' (speckled, dappled). Unfortunately not much more is known about Bertoncello; its catalogs and archives were destroyed when it was shuttered in 1999.
