Vintage mid-century Scandinavian design Carl-Harry Stålhane for Rörstrand stoneware flying shape dish, made in Sweden between 1956-60.

Rörstrand Sweden 'R' and three crowns markings on the base. Also marked CHS for Carl-Harry Stålhane. Factory 1st. Beautiful collector's item! The dish is has a mottled yellow/brown/beige matte glaze which gives the dish an earthy, prehistoric feel. Some subtle graphite markings on the underside as is common with this kind of matte glaze. The unusual flying shaped form is one of Stålhane's famous styles - SAH in the smaller size.

Condition:
In excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks or damage.

Carl Harry Stålhane was one of the most important ceramic artists and designers in Sweden during the 20th century. He worked for Rörstrand in 1939 to 1973. In the late 1940’s he first attracted international attention with his typical design for slender, symmetrical vases in monochrome, matt glazes, inspired by ancient Chinese Sung ceramics. His name is synonymous with high ceramic quality, magnificent creative design and brilliant craftsmanship.
