Carl-Harry Stålhane for Rörstrand stoneware SBC vase - Sweden 1950s

Mid-century Scandinavian stoneware vase designed by Carl-Harry Stålhane for Rörstrand, made in Sweden circa 1950.

Rörstrand Sweden three crowns and Carl-Harry Stålhane CHS markings on the base. Also marked as style SBC. Markings are etched into base which is glazed in brown matte. Factory second. High-shine glossy glaze in rich shades of very dark brown to black with highlights of brown-red. The rim of the neck is a very light brown/beige colour. This is a rare collector's item of iconic Swedish design. 

Condition:
In excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks or repairs.

Measurements:
16.5cm tall x 8.5cm diameter at widest point = approx 6.5" x 3.5"
Opening is round, 20mm diameter.

Carl-Harry Stålhane was one of the most important ceramic artists and designers in Sweden during the 20th century. He worked for Rörstrand in 1939 to 1973. In the late 1940’s he first attracted international attention with his typical design for slender, symmetrical vases in monochrome, matte glazes, inspired by ancient Chinese Sung ceramics. His name is synonymous with high ceramic quality, magnificent creative design and brilliant craftsmanship.
