Mid-century Scandinavian design Carl-Harry Stålhane for Rörstrand stoneware vase, made in Sweden circa 1950.

Rörstrand Sweden three crowns and Carl-Harry Stålhane CHS markings on the base. Factory 2nd. Markings are etched into base which is glazed in brown matte. Velvety smooth haresfur glaze in rich shades of brown. Asymmetrical form, the top edge undulates with an organic line. This is a rare collector's item of iconic Swedish design.

Condition:
In excellent vintage condition. There are some darker patches in the glaze from production. There are also a couple of skipped glaze spots around the foot - these are from production, they are not chips. See photos for details. No chips, cracks or repairs.

Carl Harry Stålhane was one of the most important ceramic artists and designers in Sweden during the 20th century. He worked for Rörstrand in 1939 to 1973. In the late 1940’s he first attracted international attention with his typical design for slender, symmetrical vases in monochrome, matte glazes, inspired by ancient Chinese Sung ceramics. His name is synonymous with high ceramic quality, magnificent creative design and brilliant craftsmanship.
