Mid-century Scandinavian design Carl-Harry Stålhane for Rörstrand stoneware bud vase, made in Sweden circa 1950.

Rörstrand Sweden three crowns and Carl-Harry Stålhane CHS incised on the base. Style SDS. This is a rare collector's item of iconic Swedish design.

Lovely smooth matte speckled haresfur glaze in shades of beige with a greenish hue - reminiscent of a dinosaur egg. Mottled shades of light beige are distributed irregularly around the form and the rim is brown. Attractive sculpted shape with fluted neck. Nice weight.

Condition:
In very good vintage condition. There is a black ash/graphite mark in the glaze from production (see photos) and some wear consistent with age and use. No chips, cracks or damage.

Measurements:
14cm tall x approx 6.5cm wide = approx 5.5" x 2.75"
Top edge is circular, 5cm in diameter - it then narrows down the neck.

Carl-Harry Stålhane was one of the most important ceramic artists and designers in Sweden during the 20th century. He worked for Rörstrand in 1939 to 1973. In the late 1940’s he first attracted international attention with his typical design for slender, symmetrical vases in monochrome, matte glazes, inspired by ancient Chinese Sung ceramics. His name is synonymous with high ceramic quality, magnificent creative design and brilliant craftsmanship.
