Gunnar Nylund for Rörstrand chamotte Hedgehog vase - Sweden 1940s

Vintage mid-century Scandinavian design Gunnar Nylund for Rörstrand Hedgehog vase, made in Sweden circa 1940.

Rörstrand three crowns, SVERIGE (Sweden) CHAMOTTE NYLUND markings on the base. Model V208. The Chamotte vases come in 3 sizes, this is the medium size. Intricate deeply textured stoneware chamotte surface with a lovely brown glaze. Nice substantial weight. Rare collector's item, iconic Swedish design.

Condition:
In excellent vintage condition. There are a few tiny flecks of glaze missing, very subtle, almost impossible to avoid due to the age of the piece. See photos. No cracks or repairs.

Measurements:
16cm tall x 13cm diameter at widest point = approx 6.3" x 5.25"
Opening is round, 3.3cm diameter at top edge, plus a 1cm lip.

Gunnar Nylund (1904-1997) was a Swedish ceramic designer and is one of the most well-known representatives of Scandinavian ceramic design in the 20th century. He is best known for his artistic direction of Rörstrand where he worked from 1931-1955. Nylund’s works are highly collectible and greatly sought after. Many are represented at the Swedish National Museum of Art and Design.
