Gunnar Nylund for Rörstrand stoneware AUQ vase - Sweden 1950s

Mid-century Scandinavian design Gunnar Nylund for Rörstrand stoneware bud vase, made in Sweden circa 1950.

Rörstrand Sweden three crowns and Gunnar Nylund GN incised on the base. Also marked as style AUQ. Factory second. This is a rare collector's item of iconic Swedish design. Lovely smooth semi-matte drip glaze in shades of brown with black speckles (possibly ash?) distributed irregularly around. Attractive sculpted form with gently fluted neck and delicate curved handle. Nice weight.

Condition:
In excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks or damage.

Measurements:
17cm tall x approx 8cm wide = approx 6.75" x 3.25"
Round opening, 2.7cm in diameter at top edge - it then narrows slightly down the neck.

Gunnar Nylund (1904-1997) was a Swedish ceramic designer and is one of the most well-known representatives of Scandinavian ceramic design in the 20th century. He is best known for his artistic direction of Rörstrand where he worked from 1931-1955. Nylund’s works are highly collectible and greatly sought after. Many are represented at the Swedish National Museum of Art and Design.
