Mid-century Scandinavian design Gunnar Nylund for Rörstrand stoneware teapot, made in Sweden circa 1950.

Rörstrand Sweden three crowns and Gunnar Nylund GN incised on top of body, underneath the lid. Factory first. Lovely smooth semi-matte mottled glaze in shades of orangey brown. Attractive ribbed form with double spouts and four feet. It also has a beautiful wrapped bamboo handle. The form, indentations, lid and colour create the resemblance of a pumpkin. Nice sturdy weight. This is a rare collector's item of iconic Swedish design.

Condition:
In excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks or damage, except for a tiny chip on the edge of one spout (see zoom photo) and two tiny chips to the matte brown glaze at the outside edge of one of the holes beneath the lid.

Measurements:
16.5cm tall (21.5cm including upright handle) x 23cm wide x 14.8cm deep = approx 6.5" x 9 x 5.75"

Gunnar Nylund (1904-1997) was a Swedish ceramic designer and is one of the most well-known representatives of Scandinavian ceramic design in the 20th century. He is best known for his artistic direction of Rörstrand where he worked from 1931-1955. Nylund’s works are highly collectible and greatly sought after. Many are represented at the Swedish National Museum of Art and Design.
