Vintage mid-century Scandinavian design by Gunnar Nylund for Rörstrand stoneware bowl, made in Sweden in the 1950s.
Rörstrand 'R' and three crowns, SWEDEN, GN markings on the base. Marked as style ARO - this is the small size. Factory 2nd - likely due to many glaze pores and pinholes inside from production (see photos). Shades of blue and purple blend to brown in a semi-matte haresfur glaze. Beautiful sculptural form. It is a rare collector's item of iconic Swedish design.
Condition:
In excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks or repairs.

Gunnar Nylund (1904-1997) was a Swedish ceramic designer and is one of the most well-known representatives of Scandinavian ceramic design in the 20th century. He is best known for his artistic direction of Rörstrand where he worked from 1931-1955. Nylund’s works are highly collectible and greatly sought after. Many are represented at the Swedish National Museum of Art and Design.
