Vintage mid-century Scandinavian design by Gunnar Nylund for Rörstrand stoneware vase, made in Sweden in the 1950s.

Rörstrand 'R' and three crowns, SWEDEN, GN markings incised on brown matte base. Marked as factory 2nd. Beautifully coloured in shades of minty green and light blue in a matte glaze with crystalline speckles of taupe/cream. Lovely simple sculptural form. It is a rare collector's item of iconic Swedish design.

Condition:
In excellent vintage condition. There appears to be a small split along the lip, most likely from production leading to the marking as a factory 2nd. Some pinholes in the glaze. No other chips, cracks or damage.

Measurements:
18.5cm tall x 8cm wide = approx 7.25" x 3"
Round opening 2.3cm diameter.

Gunnar Nylund (1904-1997) was a Swedish ceramic designer and is one of the most well-known representatives of Scandinavian ceramic design in the 20th century. He is best known for his artistic direction of Rörstrand where he worked from 1931-1955. Nylund’s works are highly collectible and greatly sought after. Many are represented at the Swedish National Museum of Art and Design.
