Mid-century Scandinavian stoneware vase designed by Carl-Harry Stålhane for Rörstrand, made in Sweden circa 1950.

Rörstrand Sweden three crowns and Carl-Harry Stålhane CHS markings on the base. Also marked as style CDF. Markings are etched into base which is glazed in brown matte. Factory second. High-shine glossy glaze in rich shades of dark green with accents of camel brown. The rim of the neck blends beautifully from brown to green. This is a rare collector's item of iconic Swedish design and is an impressively large and sturdy piece.

Condition:
In very good vintage condition. This piece is a factory second, likely due to the a glaze skip at the rim of the neck and some burst glaze bubbles on the body. These imperfections are from production. There is also a hairline crack in the glaze - barely visible. See pictures for details.

Measurements:
17.5cm tall x 15cm diameter at widest point = approx 7" x 6"
Opening is round, 30mm diameter.

Complementary style shown in last image.

Carl-Harry Stålhane was one of the most important ceramic artists and designers in Sweden during the 20th century. He worked for Rörstrand in 1939 to 1973. In the late 1940’s he first attracted international attention with his typical design for slender, symmetrical vases in monochrome, matte glazes, inspired by ancient Chinese Sung ceramics. His name is synonymous with high ceramic quality, magnificent creative design and brilliant craftsmanship.
