Carl-Harry Stålhane for Rörstrand Ateljé stoneware vase - Sweden 1950s

Mid-century Scandinavian stoneware vase designed by Carl-Harry Stålhane for Ateljé Rörstrand, made in Sweden circa 1950.

Rörstrand Ateljé Sweden three crowns and Carl-Harry Stålhane 'CHS-e' markings etched into base. Semi-matte glaze in a wash of brown tones. Edges are highlighted by original light clay colour. Geometric decoration hand-etched into the sides. This piece is studio made and the Ateljé marking means less than 200 pieces of this style were made. This is a unique collector's item of iconic Swedish design.

Condition:
In excellent vintage condition. There is a small manufacturing defect at the top edge - this is not damage. See photo for detail.

Measurements:
14.5cm tall x 15cm diameter = approx 5.75" x 6". 5.3cm round opening.

Carl-Harry Stålhane was one of the most important ceramic artists and designers in Sweden during the 20th century. He worked for Rörstrand in 1939 to 1973. In the late 1940’s he first attracted international attention with his typical design for slender, symmetrical vases in monochrome, matte glazes, inspired by ancient Chinese Sung ceramics. His name is synonymous with high ceramic quality, magnificent creative design and brilliant craftsmanship.
