Mid-century Scandinavian design Carl-Harry Stålhane for Rörstrand Ateljé stoneware bowl, made in Sweden circa 1950.

Rörstrand Ateljé Sweden three crowns and Carl-Harry Stålhane CHS markings on the base. Markings are etched into base which is glazed in brown wash. Factory 1st. Semi-matte very dark brown, almost black coloured glaze. Rim is highlighted by original light clay colour. This piece is studio made and the Ateljé marking means only less than 200 pieces of this style were made. A rare collector's item of iconic Swedish design.

Condition:
In excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks or repairs. Some glaze pops from production and faint graphite lines.

5cm tall x 16.5cm diameter = approx 2" x 6.5"

Carl Harry Stålhane was one of the most important ceramic artists and designers in Sweden during the 20th century. He worked for Rörstrand in 1939 to 1973. In the late 1940’s he first attracted international attention with his typical design for slender, symmetrical vases in monochrome, matte glazes, inspired by ancient Chinese Sung ceramics. His name is synonymous with high ceramic quality, magnificent creative design and brilliant craftsmanship.
