Mid-century Einer Hellerøe for BR Keramik ceramic teapot from the 'Amazonas' collection, made in Denmark in 1958.
BR DENMARK, EH and number 760 stamped into base of body. Smooth, matte brown washed glaze, applied by hand and intentionally irregular so some areas appear lighter than others. The inside reveals the light speckled colour of the clay. Decorated with vertical sgraffito lines all around the side, creates a tactile surface. Lovely round form with spout, and inset lid. It also has a metal handle beautifully wrapped in cane. Nice sturdy weight. This piece is from the 'Amazonas' design line and is a highly coveted and collectable example of mid-century Danish Design.
Condition:
In excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks or damage.
Measurements:
11.5cm tall x 20cm wide = approx 4.5" x 7.75"
BR stands for Brothers Rasmussen – a wholesaler of ceramics, who had a number of ceramicists produce work for them to release under the BR brand. This piece is signed EH – which has often been mis-attributed to Danish Potter, Eigil Hinrichsen, but is in fact the EH cypher of Einer.
