Georg Nilsson for Gero silver plated dish - The Netherlands early 20th Century

Vintage Georg Nilsson for Gero (Gerritsen & Co.) silver plated dish, made in Zeist, The Netherlands between 1933-57.

'B' 'Gero' and '90' markings impressed on the base referring to the maker and 90 indicating 90 grams of pure silver used in the plating. This is a great example of mid-century modernist design with clean lines and a rounded triangular form on a low foot. Plated in silver the dish has a smooth surface with a beautiful shiny surface and a subtle patina consistent with age. Would serve as a lovely trinket or jewellery holder. Original use was as a sugar dish.

Condition:
In excellent vintage condition. I have not polished this piece as the patina adds to its charm. See pictures for details.

4.2cm tall x 8cm wide = approx 1.75" x 3.25"

Georg Nilsson, born in Denmark in 1888, was trained by Georg Jensen until 1927 when he was hired by Gero (Gerritsen & Co.) as a designer and craftsman. He worked at the factory in Copenhagen until its closure in 1933. He then relocated to the factory in Zeist, The Netherlands, where he continued until his retirement in 1957. His early work was characterized by hammered surfaces and the use of animal motifs. After WWII his designs became sleek and functional.
