Pair of vintage Stanley Ballard Art Pottery Vermont planters, hand-thrown in Vermont circa 1950. Available individually or as a pair.
Lovely glossy light grey glaze washed over the top of a darker brown, creating a speckled appearance. Oblong forms with gently curved sides. The smaller has a flat base with a marking but not clearly readable. The larger is slightly raised by a small foot and is clearly signed S Ballard VERMONT by the artist on the unglazed base. Both pieces have vertical stripes in the centre of the sides. The forms are hand-thrown so they are slightly irregular, as is the glaze.
Condition:
In excellent vintage condition. Some subtle imperfections in the glaze as it is a hand thrown piece. No chips, cracks or damage.
Measurements:
Smaller: 5.8cm tall x 26.5cm wide x 8cm deep = approx 2.25" x 10.25" x 3"
Larger: 7.5cm tall x 27.5cm wide x 8.5cm deep = approx 3" x 11" x 3.25"
Vermont studio potter, Stanley Ballard (1917-1960) produced a body of work that has attracted national attention from collectors of mid-century pottery.
