Vintage Strömbergshyttan asymmetrical sommerso cyrstal glass vase, crafted in Sweden in the late 1950s.

Extremely are collector's item! Beautiful sommerso style vase with asymmetrical air bulb. The coloured underlay is a copper-toned nuance (changing to golden yellow on the side) encased in clear Strömberg-crystal. The restrained yet well-balanced use of colour adds to the style and unique nature of this piece.

The style number is B927, as displayed in a catalog from 1958-1960 (see last image). B stood for Blomvaser = floral vases. The original Stömbergshyttan sticker is still on the vase although has been mostly removed. This piece could either be a late released model by Gunnar Nylund or a Nylund-inspired model by Asta Strömberg. It is a lovely curved form with a narrow opening and a nice heavy weight.

Condition:
In excellent vintage condition. There is an extremely faint surface scratch on one side but it didn't show up well in photographs. No other chips, cracks or damage. There are some pads on the base from the previous owner to help protect it - they could be removed.

Measurements:
approx 19.3cm tall x 11.5cm wide x 5cm deep = approx 7.75" x 4.75" x 2"
Elliptical opening with 16mm width and 6mm depth.

Strombergshyttan glassworks was founded in 1876 in Sweden, and was called the Lindfors glassworks until its changed its name in 1933 when Edward Stromberg, who was the former head from Orrefors, leased the company. In 1976 the it was sold to Orrefors. Orrefors closed the company in 1979. Gerda and Asta Stromberg designed most of the glass. Gunnar Nylund was the artistic leader for Strombergshyttan from 1952-56. He later contributed designs as a freelancer.
