Vintage glass footed sommerso vase, designed by Tapio Wirkkala for Iittala. Made in Finland in 1964.
The base is signed by the artist, with his name, Tapio Wirkkala and the style number 3580. The vase also has the original triangular Iittala 'Made in Finland' sticker on the upper edge. This sommerso form has a solid foot and tapers very slightly towards to top. The grey sommerso glass is encased in clear glass at the foot. Beautiful collector's item of nordic design!
Condition:
In excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks or repairs. Some very faint surface markings consistent with age, doesn't show up well in photos, please enquire before purchase if you would like any further pictures or information.
Measurements:
20.5cm tall x 6.6cm wide = approx 8" x 2.75"
Foot is 6.7cm tall and 5cm diameter.

One of the great Scandinavian Modernist designers, Tapio Wirkkala’s influence was felt far afield, and he worked in nearly every medium from glass to wood, and metal to paper. He was driven by a deep love for Finnish flora and fauna, and the natural landscape that contains it. Tapio Wirkkala is best known globally for his glass designs, which were mainly produced by Finnish manufacturer Iittala. He worked there as one of the key glass designers from 1946-85.
Iittala, founded as a glassworks in 1881, is a Finnish design brand specialising in design objects, tableware and cookware.
