Wilhelm Kåge for Gustavsberg stoneware Verkstad teapot - Sweden late 1950s

Mid-century vintage Wilhelm Kåge design for Gustavsberg stoneware teapot, made in Sweden between 1955-60.

Relief stamped on the base is KÅGE VERKSTAD within a square with the KAPA initials surrounding it. The initials represent the 4 principals of the group: Wilhelm Kage, master designer and head of Gustavsberg from 1917-1948; Bjorn Alskog, Birger Arvidsson & Axel Pettersson. This line only existed from 1955 until Kåge's death in 1960. GUSTAVSBERG is also stamped 4 times around the base.
Lovely smooth semi-matte haresfur speckled glaze in shades of golden brown over the top of soft mossy green. Beautiful round form with chunky spout, curved lid and tea strainer inside. It also has a stunning bamboo handle. Nice sturdy weight. This is a rare collector's item of iconic Swedish design.

Condition:
In very good vintage condition. There is a small hairline crack by the rim - barely noticeable. Some tea stains on strainer. See pictures and contact with any concerns.

14.5cm tall to top of finial (21cm tall to top of handle) x 18cm wide x 15cm deep = approx 5.75" (8.25) x 7" x 6"

Wilhelm Kåge (originally Nilsson) was born in 1889 and died in 1960 in Stockholm. He was a Swedish artist, painter and ceramist. He was the artistic director of Gustavsberg from 1917 until he was succeeded by Stig Lindberg in 1948.

Gustavsberg is a Swedish porcelain company that originated in 1826 and continued production until it broke up in the 1990s.
